Peppermint Hot Chocolate Recipe

All the peppermint and hot chocolate please!

I love staying warm in the winter but my favorite is taking in a sip of hot chocolate during the holidays. Peppermint hot chocolate has always been a favorite of mine and I thought it would be a sweet treat recipe to make at home since Christmas is right around the corner! What I love about this simple recipe is that you can substitute whole milk for almond milk (for my lactose intolerant people like myself), milk chocolate for dark chocolate or white chocolate and if you do not like peppermint you can simply skip the peppermint extract step! You can also cut the portions in half if you want 2 servings, the yield is 4 servings with the ingredients below.

Also, IT'S HOMEMADE!! What's better than homemade peppermint hot chocolate?!
If you want to learn how to make this recipe just follow along:

INGREDIENTS

4 cups of milk of your choice
8 oz. of chocolate of your choice, chopped into small pieces (or chocolate chips)
1 tsp. of vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon of peppermint extract (4 drops for 2 servings)

OPTIONAL TOPPINGS

decorative sprinkles
marshmallows
whipped cream
festive straw

INSTRUCTIONS

1. Stir in the milk and chopped chocolate together in a medium saucepan. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture comes to a simmer and the chocolate is melted (do not let it come to a boil or let the chocolate burn at the bottom).

2. Once the chocolate is melted, add in the vanilla and peppermint extract. Stir for a couple seconds.

3. Pour and serve in your favorite Christmas mug! Add your favorite toppings like marshmallows and whipped cream for a yummy treat.
& that's it - easy as 1, 2, 3!

I hope those who try this recipe enjoys it as much as I do! Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas!

xx,
